Book review: A Court of Thorns and Roses

    Hello there! 🤗 How have you been? We hope you are having the most wonderful day, either you are working, studying, on vacation, wherever.

    We have both finally finished A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas and the review is ready to go, so let's do this! 💪🏻 Beware ⚠️⚠️⚠️, because there will be spoilers ahead, so if you are thinking about reading the series and want to be surprise, you might want to click out of our page (it's okay, you can come back later hehehe 🤭).

    Here we go!

    A Court of Thorns and Roses is a fantasy novel, part of a series that so far consists on 5 books. Being the first book, we wanted to take our time reading in order to really understand the magic system, creatures, as well as the characters.

    The story beggins with our protagonist, Feyre, a 19 year old girl who hunts in the woods in order to keep her family alive. One day, Feyre is hunting when she stumbles upon a wolf ready to attack her prey. The massive predator catches her attention, not only because of being a wolf, but because not everything is what it seems. In a world where fairies are real, the massive size of the wolf is a dead giveway of it's true nature. Feyre kills the wolf and takes is skin along with the deer.

    Unfortunately for Feyre, the small happiness giving by fresh meat and a wolf's skin to sell in order to feed her father and her two older sisters is shortly lived. A beast comes to her family's shak to claim a life for a life as the Treaty establishes. Either Feyre choses to die in that spot to pay for the life she took, or she will have to follow this beast to the other side of a wall that has kept the fairy world apart from the human world. She will end her days in Prythian and never go back to her family or the human side of the wall. She accepts his offer and leaves, while saying goodbye to her family and warning them to stay safe, hoping that one day she will escape and come back to them.

    The beast puts her under a spell, making her sleep through most of the journey and when she wakes up, she as her first glance at the Fae realm at the Spring Court 🌺. The beast, who is after all a High Fae named Tamlin, tells her that she is to have her own room, share her meals with him and other guest in the house and that other than that she can do as she pleases, as long as she remains in the limits of the property 😌💁🏻‍♀️.

    Feyre meets other Fae such as Lucien and Alis, and she learns that all people in the Spring Court are bound by some sort of spell. All of them wear a mask 🎭 and it is impossible to take them of. Even though she is being well taken care of, she can't help but to think of her family and if they will survive without her. She also tries to escape, but the land is surrounded by creatures who would not hesitate to end her life.

    In order to get some answers, Feyre tracks a creature named the Suriel, whose abilities allow it to answer whatever question she asks. This almost costs her life, but luckily she is saved by Tamlin, who came back from patrol in time to hear her screams when she is attacked by another fairy subspecies, the naga.

    Feyre begs to go home in order to take care for her family, but Tamlin says the Treaty does not allow it. However, he also lets her know that she has not to worry, since her father and sisters are being cared for. They also have no memory of what happened and think Feyre has gone to care for an eldery aunt.

  Realizing this, Feyre is able to relax for one and she begins to open more to the Spring Court.

    And the rest, we will keep in absolute mystery for you guys to figure out! 😌🤭 The story is very interesting and gives off many fairytale vibes, since it is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast (👹👗). The writing from Feyre's point of view, really paints a picture in your head and you can't help but to be fascinated by the beauty and danger of Prythian.

    We are still in the beginning of the series and have just started ACOMAF, but we are so far loving it and we are sure that this fictional world will be stuck to us for a very long time. We give ACOTAR ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5 stars and we hope to have more news about these books soon!

    Corte de Espinhos e Rosas é um romance de fantasia, parte de uma saga que até agora consiste em 5 livros. Sendo o primeiro livro, queríamos levar o nosso tempo a lê-lo, para compreender realmente o sistema mágico, as criaturas, assim como as personagens.

    A história começa com a nossa protagonista, Feyre, uma rapariga de 19 anos que caça na floresta para manter a sua família viva. Um dia, Feyre está a caçar quando se depara com um lobo pronto a atacar a sua presa. O enorme predador chama-lhe a atenção, não só por ser um lobo, mas porque nem tudo é o que parece. Num mundo onde as fadas são reais, o tamanho maciço do lobo é uma demonstração da sua verdadeira natureza. Feyre mata o lobo e leva a sua pele juntamente com o veado.

    Infelizmente para Feyre, a pequena felicidade dada pela carne fresca e a pele de um lobo para vender a fim de alimentar o seu pai e as suas duas irmãs mais velhas, passa rapidamente. Uma criatura monstruosa vem à casebre da sua família para reclamar uma vida por outra que foi perdida, tal como o Tratado estabelece. Ou Feyre escolhe morrer ali mesmo para pagar pela vida que tirou, ou terá de seguir esta fera para o outro lado de um muro que tem mantido o mundo das fadas à parte do mundo humano. Ela terminará os seus dias em Prythian e nunca mais voltará para a sua família ou para o lado humano do muro. Ela aceita a sua oferta e parte, despedindo-se da sua família e avisando-os para se manterem a salvo, esperando que um dia possa escapar e voltar para eles.

    A criatura põe-na sob um feitiço, deixando-a a dormir durante a maior parte da viagem e quando acorda, vê pela primeira vez o território Fae, neste caso a Corte da Primavera 🌺.  A criatura, que é afinal um High Fae chamado Tamlin, diz-lhe que ela terá o seu próprio quarto, partilhará as suas refeições com ele e os outros hóspedes da casa e que, além disso, poderá fazer o que lhe apetecer, desde que permaneça nos limites da propriedade 😌💁🏻‍♀️.

    Feyre conhece outros Fae como Lucien e Alis e fica a saber que todas as pessoas na Corte da Primavera estão sujeitas a algum tipo de feitiço. Todas elas usam uma máscara 🎭 e é impossível de as tirar. Embora ela esteja a ser bem tratada, não consegue deixar de pensar na sua família e se eles sobreviverão sem ela. Ela também tenta escapar, mas a propriedade está rodeada de criaturas que não hesitariam em acabar com a sua vida.

    De modo a obter algumas respostas, Feyre procura uma criatura chamada Suriel, cujas capacidades lhe permite responder a qualquer pergunta que ela faça. Isto quase lhe custa a vida, mas felizmente ela é salva pelo Tamlin, que voltou da patrulha a tempo de ouvir os seus gritos quando é atacada por outra subespécie de fada, a naga.

    Feyre implora para ir para casa para cuidar da sua família, mas Tamlin diz que o Tratado não o permite. No entanto, também lhe diz que ela não tem de se preocupar, uma vez que o seu pai e as suas irmãs estão a ser bem tratados. Eles também não têm memória do que aconteceu e pensam que Feyre foi cuidar de uma tia idosa.

    Percebendo isto, Feyre é finalmente capaz de relaxar e começa a abrir-se mais à Corte da Primavera.

    E o resto, vai permanecer um absoluto mistério para que vocês descubram! 😌🤭 A história é muito interessante e dá muitas vibes de conto de fadas, uma vez que é baseada na Bela e o Monstro (👹👗). A escrita do ponto de vista da Feyre, pinta realmente um cenário na nossa cabeça e não é possível não ficar fascinado com a beleza e o perigo de Prythian.

    Ainda estamos no início da saga e acabamos de começar a ler o ACOMAF, mas até agora estamos a adorar e temos a certeza de que este mundo imaginário ficará connosco durante muito tempo. Damos ao ACOTAR ⭐⭐⭐⭐ de 5 estrelas e esperamos ter mais notícias sobre estes livros em breve!
