🌞 Summer books, movies and tv shows recommendations 🌞

    Hello everyone, we are pretty much in the middle of summer!☀️ Do you miss the warm and drier days? Or would you rather have stayed in spring with the cooler days and a little rain to liven things up from time to time? Around here we're sensitive to the heat and one of us, who we won't reveal, even gets unwell and can't move in the heat (🤧 Bia 🤧). 

    So, for those days when you want to do something relaxing but that gives you the vibe of the season, we've put together a list of recommendations with some of our favourites for relaxing, whether by the pool or in your living room.

🌞 Books:

        

        🌊 The Summer I turned Pretty by Jenny Han - for as long as she can remember, Belly Conklin has always spent every summer at the Fisher family beach house. Likewise, she's always had a crush on the Fisher's eldest son, Conrad. This year will be different from the last and Belly will be forced to deal with emotions she's never felt before. This is the perfect book to read on the beach with the sound of the sea in the background.

        🌊 Sweet Revenge by Nora Roberts - ⚠ this book deals with themes such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, among others ⚠ our protagonist is Adrianne, an Arab princess who left behind a life of abuse and horrors along with her mother. But Adrianne can't come to terms with the life she and her mother have had to accept for years thanks to her father's abuse. In an attempt to get revenge and take away what he cherishes most, Adrianne plans to steal an absolutely priceless necklace.

        🌊 The Ice Cream Girls by Dorothy Koomson - Poppy Carlisle and Serena Gorringe were witnesses to a horrific death when they were teenagers. They became known by the press as "the ice-cream girls". After the trial, Poppy went to jail and Serena continued her normal life. Her current family doesn't know who she is or the story she's involved in. Poppy has always claimed that she was involved with the murdered man, but has always said that she didn't kill him. Now that she's out of jail, Poppy wants Serena to admit her guilt.

🌞 Movies:

        🌊 French Kiss - in this romantic comedy starring Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline, Kate is a young woman who travels to Paris to confront her fiancé about having an affair with another woman and hoping to win him back. Whilst travelling, she meets Luc, a charming rogue and petty thief. Their paths intertwine and they end up spending their time in France chasing each other.

        🌊 Letters to Juliet - Sophie, played by Amanda Seyfried, is an aspiring writer who travels to Verona, Italy, with her fiancé Victor. There, she discovers an old love letter and joins a group of volunteers who answer these wishes. When the letter's sender, Claire Smith, decides to follow the advice given in the reply and look for her former love, Sophie becomes involved in an exciting search for the past.

        🌊 The Big Wedding - with a magnificent cast full of Hollywood's biggest names, there's no way you won't love this romantic comedy. Don and Ellie, played by Robert De Niro and Diane Keaton, are divorced. However, their adopted son, Alejandro, played by Ben Barnes, is getting married and has invited his extremely Catholic biological mother to the wedding. Being a traditional woman with little tolerance for lack of strict rules, the couple pretends to be married during the wedding weekend so that everything goes perfectly.  But things are far from perfect and when the whole family gets together, things tend to go off the rails.

🌞 TV shows:

        🌊 Big Little Lies - set in a coastal town in California, we follow the story of three mothers: Madeline, Celeste and Jane. Despite their differences, the three become closer after a situation involving bullying at their children's school. The protagonists lead seemingly calm and, in some cases, perfect lives, but the events that unfold over the summer, including a murder, will change everyone's perspective on them.

        🌊 The Summer I turned Pretty - the show is the adaptation of the book we recommended at the beginning of this post. At the moment, we have 2 seasons, the first of which (until now, because we're still in middle hehehe) is pretty true to the book.

    Olá pessoal! Estamos praticamente a meio do verão!☀️ Já tinham saudades do calor e de dias mais secos? Ou preferiam ter ficado na primavera com os dias mais frescos e com alguma chuvinha para animar as coisas de vez em quando? Por aqui somos sensíveis ao calor e inclusive um de nós, que não revelaremos qual, fica indisposto e sem capacidade de se mexer com o calor (🤧 Bia 🤧).

    Por isso, para aqueles dias em que querem fazer algo relaxante mas que vos dê as vibes da estação, preparamos uma listinha de recomendações com alguns dos nossos favoritos para relaxar, seja ao pé da piscina ou na vossa sala.

🌞 Livros:

        

        🌊 O Verão em que me apaixonei da Jenny Han -  desde que se lembra, Belly Conklin sempre passou todos os verões na casa de praia da família Fisher. Igualmente, desde sempre que teve um paixão pelo filho mais velho dos Fisher, Conrad. Este ano, será diferente dos anteriores e Belly será obrigada a lidar com emoções que nunca sentiu. Este é o livro perfeito para ler na praia com o som do mar como barulho de fundo.

        🌊 Tudo o que ficou para trás da Nora Roberts - ⚠este livro aborda temas como violência doméstica, abuso sexual, entre outros ⚠ a nossa protagonista é Adrianne, uma princesa árabe que deixou para trás uma vida de abusos e horrores, em conjunto com a sua mãe. Mas Adrianne não se conforma com a vida que ela e a sua mãe tiveram de aceitar por anos a fio graças aos abusos de seu pai. Numa tentativa de se vingar e de lhe retirar o que ele mais preza, Adrianne planeia roubar um colar de valor absolutamente inestimável.

        🌊 Um erro inocente da Dorothy Koomson - Poppy Carlisle e Serena Gorringe foram testemunhas de uma morte horrorosa quando eram adolescentes. Ficaram conhecidas pela imprensa como "as meninas do gelado". Após o julgamento, Poppy foi para a cadeia e Serena continuou a sua vida normal. A sua atual família desconhece quem ela é e a história em que está envolvida. Poppy sempre afirmou que tinha estado envolvida com o homem assassinado, mas sempre disse que não o matou. Agora que saiu da cadeia, Poppy quer que Serena admita a culpa do que fez.

        🌊 O Beijo - Nesta comédia romântica, com as estrelas Meg Ryan e Kevin Kline, Kate é uma jovem mulher que viaja para Paris a fim de confrontar o seu noivo com o facto de este ter um caso com outra mulher e na expectativa de o reconquistar.         🌊 O Grande Dia - com um elenco magnífico, cheio de nomes sonantes do cinema, não há maneira de não adorar esta comédia romântica. Mas as coisas estão longe de ser perfeitas e quando todas a família se junta, as coisas têm tendência a sair dos trilhos.

🌞 Séries:

        🌊 Pequenas Grandes Mentiras - numa cidade costeira na Califórnia, seguimos a história de três mães: Madeline, Celeste e Jane. Apesar das suas diferenças, as três aproximam-se após uma situação de bullying na escola dos seus filhos. As protagonistas levam vidas aparentemente calmas e em alguns dos casos, até perfeitas, mas os acontecimentos que se desenrolam durante o verão, incluindo um homicídio, vão mudar a perspetiva de todos sobre elas.

        🌊 O Verão que mudou a minha vida - a série é a adaptação do livro que recomendamos no inicio deste post. Neste momento, temos 2 temporadas, sendo que a primeira (até agora, porque ainda vamos a meio hehehe) é bastante fiel ao livro.
