๐Ÿ“š✨ TBR reality check: the books we already own… but haven't read yet ๐Ÿ“š✨

(English)

    There’s a universal truth among readers that few like to admit out loud: buying books and reading books are two completely different hobbies. It sounds strange, but it’s absolutely truth! And us? We suffer badly from the first one ๐Ÿ˜…

    Hello, dear readers! How are you all doing? ๐Ÿค— Today’s post comes from a very real need. We looked at our bookshelves, at the piles of books (yes, because there’s more than one) spread around the room, at the mountains of untouched books… and we realize that our TBR is no longer just a list. It’s practically its own entity, haunting us every time we look at it ๐Ÿ˜ถ.

    We have more than 60 books unread. Yes, you read that right! There are books that one of us has read and the other hasn’t, and vice versa. But there are more than 60 books that neither of us has read!

    For a long time, buying books was synonymous with excitement, comfort, and that silent promise of “one day I’ll read this.” The serotonin rush of ordering something is tricky, isn’t it? Things get complicated when the number starts growing faster than the books we actually finish reading.

    So this year, we decided to do something different. Instead of pretending that this absolutely out-of-control TBR doesn’t exist, we decided to own up to it on our blog and turn this situation into a commitment. And that’s how our new series for 2026 (and maybe even beyond, hehe) was born: TBR Reality Check.

    The idea is pretty simple:

  • share the books we still haven’t read in small groups, so we don’t feel discouraged by a massive TBR;

  • choose our reads more intentionally and lose the fear of picking up books that have been sitting on the shelf for years;

  • do honest check-ins (without pretending we’re organized or disciplined);

  • and, above all, read more than we buy (ideally not buying anything until a birthday, for example).

    So far, we’ve defined a list of books we plan to read in 2026, and there’s a huge variety. Do you recognize any of them?

    Of course, this post is just the beginning of what will most likely be a very long and challenging process. The post we’re sharing here and on Instagram and TikTok are just a small sample of our real TBR. Far from the complete list, but illustrative enough of the situation ๐Ÿ˜….

    Between fantasy, romance, and thrillers waiting their turn, there are books we’ve already chosen as priorities and others that are waiting for someone to tell us: “read this one first!”

    And this is where you come in! We want to turn this into a shared experience. We want suggestions, opinions, gentle nudges, and of course, a bit of social pressure so we don’t give up halfway through. Let’s turn this feature into a moment of mutual encouragement! Make a list of books that have been marinating on your TBR for far too long and share in the comments which ones you’re definitely going to try to read this year. Let’s motivate each other! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

    Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing our updates (the good and the bad, but above all, the honest ones) on how our progress is going with this challenge. To start off on the right foot, we’ve already picked up a read that had us curious: People We Meet on Vacation ๐Ÿฉฑ๐Ÿจ. We still haven’t seen the movie, but we’re planning to watch it after finishing the book. Would you like us to do a joint review comparing the book and the movie? Let us know in the comments!

    For those of you who also have a TBR that haunts you every time you walk past your bookshelf… you’re in the right place ๐Ÿค. Share with us in the comments a book that’s been on your shelf forever and the reason why you still haven’t read it!

    Happy reading, and we’ll see you in the next post! ๐Ÿ“š✨

(Portuguรชs)

E nรณs? Sofremos gravemente do primeiro ๐Ÿ˜…

    Olรก queridos leitores!

    Temos mais de 60 livros por ler. Sim, leram bem! Existem livros que um de nรณs leu e o outro nรฃo e vice-versa. Mas existem mais de 60 livros que nenhum de nรณs leu!

    Durante muito tempo, comprar livros foi sinรดnimo de entusiasmo, conforto e aquela promessa silenciosa de “um dia vou ler este”. A serotonina de encomendar algo รฉ tramada, nรฃo รฉ? A coisa torna-se complicada no momento em que o nรบmero comeรงa a crescer mais depressa do que as leituras concluรญdas.

    Por isso, este ano decidimos fazer algo diferente. Em vez de fingirmos que esta TBR absolutamente descontrolada nรฃo existe, resolvemos assumir a situaรงรฃo no nosso blog e transformar esta situaรงรฃo num compromisso. Assim nasce a nossa nova rubrica para o ano de 2026 (e talvez atรฉ posterior hehehe) TBR Reality Check.

     A ideia รฉ bastante simples simples:

  • partilhar os livros que ainda temos por ler em pequenos grupos, para nรฃo nos sentirmos desmotivados com uma TBR imensa;
  • escolher leituras com mais intenรงรฃo e perder o medo de pegar em livros que estรฃo na estante hรก anos;
  • fazer check-ins honestos (sem fingir que somos organizados ou disciplinados);

๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

Boas leituras, e vemo-nos no prรณximo post! ๐Ÿ“š✨
