😭 Books that made us cry 😭

    Hi guys! How have you been? Very busy or have you managed to find some free time for your reading?

    Today we decided to talk a bit about those books that caused such an intense reaction that they made us cry. Because there's always that one book that moves us the most and brings that little tear to the corner of our eye and before we know it, we're pouring more water than the Niagara Falls.

    Can you find some of your favourites here? 

    😭 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling - this book must have been the biggest tear-jerker we've ever had... The fact that it was the last chapter in one of our most beloved series, really helped the party. Even so, what kept the tears coming, was all the characters we lost over the course of the war. There comes a point when it's absolutely brutal to see so many innocent characters killed so ruthlessly. This is probably our tears crowning glory 👑🥺.

    😭 Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo - the last book in the Six of Crows duology - is about a classic case of getting too attached to characters so that you're never prepared to lose anyone. This conclusion was absolutely brutal for our emotions.

    😭 The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - this book is unusual from start to finish. Firstly, our narrator is death itself. And our protagonist is Liesel, a girl who lives with a couple who take her in during the events of the Second World War. Liesel has been through a lot, including the death of her brother. With constant casualties occurring during the conflict, Death spends a lot of time in those parts and in total, he crosses paths with Liesel three times. With an ending that's to be expected, but that will still leave your heart in pieces, it's impossible not to be moved.

    😭 Perfect Match by Jodi Picoult - ⚠ this book deals with themes such as pedophilia and sexual abuse ⚠ Nina is our protagonist and she's used to dealing with difficult situations. Her work with the Public Prosecutor's Office forces her to deal daily with cases involving macabre situations of abuse and violence. Nina strives for justice and always keeps an emotional distance from the situation. However, her life changes from one moment to the next when her own son is the victim of sexual abuse and Nina, being within the system, knows that justice may not be done for her son and that she may have to take matters into her own hands. This book makes you cry for the innocence of the child involved in the case and for the feeling of helplessness when you realise that there are thousands of children in these situations. It's a very strong and raw book in the way it presents the subject, but it gives you an idea of the complexity of these cases and how a situation of sexual abuse destroys not only the victim, but also their family and their trust in the world.

    Olá maltinha! Como têm estado? Muito ocupados ou até têm conseguido ter tempo livre para as vossas leituras?

    Hoje resolvemos vir falar um pouco sobre aqueles livros que nos provocaram uma reação tão intensa, que nos fizeram chorar. Porque há sempre aquele livro que mexe mais connosco e que nos traz aquela lagrimazinha ao canto do olho e quando damos por nós, já estamos a verter mais água que as cataratas do Niágara.

    Será que encontram alguns dos vossos favoritos aqui?

    😭 Harry Potter e os Talismãs da Morte da J.K. Rowling - este livro deve ter representado a maior dose de choro que tivemos até hoje... O facto de ser o último capítulo numa das sagas mais queridas para nós, ajudou bastante à festa. Ainda assim, o que fez as lágrimas descer constantemente, foi todas as personagens que íamos perdendo ao longo da guerra. Chega a um momento que é absolutamente brutal por vermos tantas personagens inocentes a serem mortas de forma tão impiedosa. Este leva provavelmente a nossa coroa de lágrimas 👑🥺.

    😭 Reino Corrupto da Leigh Bardugo - o último livro da duologia Six of Crows sobre de um caso clássico de nos afeiçoarmos demasiado às personagens, pelo que nunca iriamos estar preparados para perder ninguém. Esta conclusão foi absolutamente brutal para as nossas emoções.

    😭 A Rapariga que roubava livros do Markus Zusak - este livro é invulgar do principio ao fim. 1º, o nosso narrador é a própria morte. E a nossa protagonista é Liesel, uma menina que vive com um casal que a acolhe durante os acontecimentos da segunda guerra mundial. Liesel já passou por muito, incluindo a morte do seu irmão. Com as constantes baixas a ocorrer durante o conflito, a Morte passa muito tempo por aqueles lados e ao todo, vai cruzar-se com Liesel 3 vezes. Com um final que já é esperado, mas que ao mesmo vai deixar o nosso coração em pedaços, é impossível não ficar emocionado.

    😭 Tudo por Amor da Jodi Picoult - ⚠ este livro aborda temas como pedofilia e abuso sexual ⚠ Nina é a nossa protagonista e está habituada a lidar com situações difíceis. O seu trabalho com o Ministério Público, obriga-a a conviver diariamente com casos que envolvem situações macabras de abusos e violência. Nina esforça-se para que seja feita justiça e mantem sempre distância emocional das situações. Porém, a sua vida muda de um momento para o outro, quando o seu próprio filho é vitima de abusos sexuais e Nina, estando dentro do sistema, sabe que poderá não ser feita justiça pelo seu filho e que talvez tenha de fazer justiça pelas suas próprias mãos. Este livro faz qualquer um chorar pela inocência da criança implicada no caso e pela sensação de impotência ao perceber que há milhares de crianças nestas situações. É um livro muito forte e cru na forma como apresenta o tema, mas permite ter uma noção da complexidade destes casos e em como uma situação de abuso sexual destrói não só a vitima, mas também a família e a confiança no mundo.

    Só escrever este post já trouxe as lágrimas aos olhos. Deixamos aqui um desafio para todos. Ou melhor, dois desafios!
