🏒Book Review: The Deal by Elle Kennedy 🏒
Hello readers! 🤍📚
Today we’re bringing you our review of one of BookTok’s most popular college romances: The Deal by Elle Kennedy. Honestly? We completely understand the hype now 😭🏒✨.
This book followed us through the first two weeks of May because we were racing against time to finish it before the series adaptation premiered. And… it ended up being one of the most fun and addictive reads we’ve had in a while. Between hockey, fake dating, constant banter and unexpected emotional trauma… we became completely obsessed with Garrett and Hannah’s story.
And yes… we also watched the Off Campus adaptation and absolutely loved it 😭. The actors did an amazing job and genuinely captured the essence of the characters so well. Garrett and Hannah had incredible chemistry (although Dean and Allie definitely stole the show 🥰) and honestly, we thought it was such a fun adaptation for fans of the books 🤍.
Summary
Hannah Wells is smart, focused and determined to move past the trauma from her past while trying to survive university life. The only problem? She has a huge crush on a guy who barely knows she exists.
Garrett Graham is the typical college athlete: captain of the hockey team, extremely popular, annoyingly confident… and desperate not to fail an important class.
When Garrett discovers that Hannah is one of the top students in their class, he convinces her to help him study. In return, he offers to fake interest in her and help her get the attention of the guy she likes.
The plan sounds simple… but obviously nothing goes as expected 😭.
⚠️ From this point on there are spoilers for the book! ⚠️
We absolutely adored this book 😭🤍.
The Deal is exactly the kind of romance that manages to balance hilarious moments, insane chemistry between characters and heavier emotional topics without ever losing its pace.
The first thing that completely won us over was Garrett and Hannah’s dynamic. Their interactions feel genuinely funny and natural. There’s constant teasing, ridiculous chemistry and that feeling that they work perfectly both as friends and as a couple.
Garrett was probably our biggest surprise. We went into this book expecting the typical arrogant popular player… and ended up completely obsessed with him and the Briar University friend group 😭.
Behind the cocky facade, Garrett is incredibly charismatic, emotionally intelligent and far more vulnerable than he initially appears. We loved how supportive he was towards Hannah without ever trying to pressure her into overcoming her trauma before she was ready. And honestly? That man was completely in love long before he realised it 🤭🏒.
As for Hannah, we really liked her as a protagonist too. She’s intelligent, sarcastic and independent, and we loved that she didn’t immediately fall at Garrett’s feet, just because he’s attractive and popular.
BUT… we need to talk about that breakup 😭. Hannah… girl. Respectfully, WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??? How did she believe Garrett’s father’s lies??? WE ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK! 😭
Another thing we really appreciated was how the book handled heavier topics without romanticising certain situations. Even though the story is light and fun for most of the book, there are important conversations about trauma, consent, abuse, family pressure and domestic violence.
We also loved the side characters and now we completely understand why so many readers become obsessed with this series. We genuinely can’t wait to see each of the boys get their own story.
The pacing works incredibly well. The book flows easily, the dialogue feels natural and there’s always something happening. It was such an addictive read and honestly perfect after heavier books.
As for the adaptation… we were genuinely really happy with it. We know adaptations tend to divide opinions, but we felt like this one managed to keep the fun, romantic and chaotic energy of the book. The actors were excellent in their roles and the chemistry between the cast really helped bring these characters to life.
Conclusion
Overall, we’re giving it 4 stars ⭐.
It was a fun, emotional and incredibly addictive read. We loved Garrett and Hannah’s dynamic, the humour and the balance between romance and heavier emotional themes.
Even though some of Hannah’s decisions almost pushed us into a nervous breakdown 😭, we finished the book completely obsessed with this couple ❤️. We definitely understand now why Off Campus has such a huge fandom.
If you’ve read this series, tell us: did you also become obsessed with Garrett or is it just us? 😭🏒🤍
See you in the next post and happy reading! 📚✨
Conclusão
Concluindo, damos 4 estrelas ⭐.
Até ao próximo post e boas leituras! 📚✨
