Reading Diary #3 | The Love Hypothesis

If we were curious to see where this relationship was
heading in our last reading diary... it's only fair to say that we're now
officially 100% obsessed! 💙🧪
📖 Reading Progress
Chapters 7 and 9 struck the perfect balance between humour,
romance, and a few surprisingly tense moments (we genuinely started wondering
whether Anh was secretly testing just how far Olive was willing to go to prove
their relationship was real 🤔). They had us saying,
"Just one more page..." until, inevitably, we'd finished the entire
chapter.
The sunscreen scene deserves a special mention. 😂
When we started that chapter, we were convinced there was no way we'd
finish it during our lunch break, it was still fairly long... Well... 30 minutes
later, we were done 😅. We simply couldn't
take our eyes off the pages!
🏅 Anh: chaos and inconvenience
in human form (in the best possible way 🥰)
Anh continues to prove she's probably the most chaotic
character in this entire book. We never know what's going to come out of her
mouth, but we do know it's going to make everyone uncomfortable... especially
Olive. 😂
That said, there doesn't seem to be anyone happier about
Adam and Olive's "relationship" than Anh.
The way she casually suggested that Olive should put
sunscreen on Adam had us laughing out loud. And the best part was Adam's
reaction, that seems more and more comfortable around Olive with every chapter,
accepting these awkward situations with a level of patience and ease that we
definitely weren't expecting from him.
🩷 Fake Dating... Is it, though?
At this point, nobody could convince us this fake
relationship is actually fake anymore. Nope! Not happening!
Every interaction between them feels more genuine than the
last. There are little gestures, lingering looks, and quiet moments of concern
that simply don't belong in a made-up relationship. Their chemistry keeps
growing so naturally that it's impossible not to root for them as we watch
their friendship slowly evolve into something that's very clearly becoming
romantic (for both of them).
🧫 Professor vs Boyfriend
These chapters also brought the first real moment of
tension, when Olive has to deal with the reaction of a fellow student who
received less-than-positive feedback from Adam.
Greg's reaction left us with mixed feelings. As engineers
ourselves, we're fairly familiar with the academic environment, and we know how
incredibly competitive research can be. Receiving harsh criticism is part of
the process, and it's often difficult not to take that kind of feedback
personally, especially when it involves your final project or thesis.
Honestly, we could understand why he was frustrated. What we
couldn't understand was why he decided to take it all out on Olive.
She has absolutely no influence over Adam's professional
decisions, and honestly, we don't think anyone should want her to. Mixing
personal relationships with professional decisions would only lead to
favouritism and unfairness.
It was one of those moments where we really felt sorry for
Olive, because she ended up being judged for something that was completely
outside her control.
🥼 Dr. Tom Benton
We really enjoyed Olive's conversation with Tom. He can
still be a little intrusive at times, especially when he brings up something as
personal as her mother 😬, but it's obvious his
intentions are good nad he's genuinely interested in the research Olive has
dedicated so much time and effort to.
And when he approved her project... 🥳
We couldn't help smiling. It was so satisfying to see Olive
finally receive the recognition she desserves, especially with the possibility
of Harvard now entering the picture.
At the same time, though, it became pretty clear that this
opportunity might end up making her life much more complicated... especially
now that Adam seems to be becoming increasingly important to her.
💉 Six Foot Three... and terrified
of needles
Another moment we absolutely loved was discovering a
completely unexpected side of Adam. Who would've guessed that a man capable of
intimidating practically everyone would be terrified of needles?
It was such a small detail, yet such a human one, and it
only made us like him even more.
(And I (Bia) immediately related to that one... because I'm
also completely incapable of looking at a needle without going into full panic
mode. 🚨)
👀 Our Theories
And of course, our theory about the mysterious guy in the
bathroom is getting stronger by chapter.
Olive is finally starting to put the pieces together, and
honestly, so are we. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but at this
point we'd actually be surprised if it wasn't Adam.
Overall, these chapters did exactly what a great romance
should do: made us completely invested in the characters while making us laugh
out loud at the same time.
We now completely understand why The Love Hypothesis
has become one of the most recommended romances of recent years.
The further we get into the story, the harder it becomes to
put the book down. These characters keep winning us over chapter after chapter,
and we're now fully invested in a relationship that, honestly... doesn't feel
fake anymore. 💙🧪

💭 Current Theory:
Adam is definitely the guy from the bathroom… 👀 and we have a feeling
they're already in love with each other, even if neither of them is ready to
admit it yet. Although we're convinced Adam has been in love for much longer. 🤭

Os capítulos 7 e 9 conseguiram equilibrar humor, romance e alguns momentos mais tensos (juro que a certa altura começamos a suspeitar que a Ahn estava a medir até onde a Olive ia para comprovar se a relação era real ou não 🤔). De tal forma que nos fez querer ler "só mais uma página..." até, inevitavelmente, terminarmos o capítulo.
A cena do protetor solar merece um destaque especial 😂. Quando começámos a ler esse capítulo, estávamos convencidos que não íamos conseguir terminar na nossa hora de almoço, porque ainda é relativamente extenso... Well... terminamos em 30 minutos 😅. Não conseguimos desviar os olhos das páginas por um segundo!
🏅 Ahn: o caos e a inconveniência concentrada (no melhor sentido 🥰)
A Ahn continua a provar que é provavelmente a personagem mais caótica deste livro. Nunca sabemos o que vai sair da boca dela, mas sabemos que vai deixar toda a gente desconfortável... especialmente a Olive. 😂
Ainda assim, não parece existir ninguém mais feliz pela "relação" entre o Adam e a Olive.
A forma completamente natural com que ela sugeriu que a Olive passasse protetor solar no Adam fez-nos rir como loucos. E o melhor de tudo foi a reação do próprio Adam, que parece cada vez mais confortável na presença da Olive e encara tudo com um nível de aceitação que não esperávamos dele.
🩷 Fake Dating, mas pouco
Nesta altura já ninguém nos convence de que este fake dating continua realmente a ser falso. Nop! Népia!
Cada interação entre eles parece mais genuína do que a anterior. Há pequenos gestos, olhares e preocupações que simplesmente não parecem fazer parte de uma relação inventada. A química entre os dois continua a crescer de forma muito natural e é impossível não torcer por eles enquanto assistimos à formação de uma amizade (claramente acompanhada por sentimos românticos da parte de ambos).
🧫 Professor vs Namorado
Estes capítulos também trouxeram o primeiro verdadeiro momento de tensão em que a Olive é confrontada pela reação de um colega que teve feedback menos positivo da parte do Adam.
A reação do Greg deixou-nos com sentimentos um pouco contraditórios. Por um lado, como engenheiros de formação, conhecemos relativamente bem o ambiente académico e sabemos que a investigação pode ser extremamente competitiva. Receber críticas duras faz parte do processo e, muitas vezes, é difícil não levar esse tipo de feedback para o lado pessoal, principalmente quando falamos do projeto final/tese.
Sinceramente, conseguimos compreender a frustração dele. O que já não conseguimos compreender foi a forma como decidiu descarregar tudo em cima da Olive.
Ela não tem qualquer influência nas decisões do Adam e, honestamente, achamos que ninguém deveria querer que tivesse. Misturar relações pessoais com decisões profissionais só abriria portas a favoritismos e injustiças.
Foi um daqueles momentos em que sentimos pena da Olive, porque acabou por ser julgada por algo que nem sequer estava sob o seu controlo.
🥼 Dr. Tom Benton
Gostámos muito da conversa entre a Olive e o Tom. Continua a ser uma personagem um pouco invasiva em alguns momentos, especialmente quando aborda assuntos tão pessoais como a mãe dela 😬, mas percebe-se claramente que as intenções dele são boas e que está curioso com o trabalho a que ela dedica o seu tempo e esforço.
E quando aprovou o projeto da Olive... 🥳
Foi impossível não sorrir ao vê-la receber finalmente o reconhecimento que merece, ainda para mais com a possibilidade de Harvard entrar na equação.
Ao mesmo tempo, também ficou claro que essa oportunidade poderá complicar bastante a vida dela... principalmente agora que o Adam parece estar a tornar-se importante para ela.
💉1.90 metros de altura e 1 milímetro de coragem
Outro momento que adorámos foi descobrir um lado completamente inesperado do Adam. Quem diria que um homem que intimida praticamente toda a gente teria medo de agulhas?
Foi um detalhe tão pequeno, mas tão humano, que só nos fez gostar ainda mais dele.
(E aqui houve uma identificação imediata da minha parte (Bia)... porque também sou completamente incapaz de olhar para uma agulha sem entrar em modo pânico 🚨)
👀 As nossas teorias
E claro, a nossa teoria sobre o misterioso rapaz da casa de banho está cada vez mais forte.
A Olive começa finalmente a juntar as peças e nós também sentimos que tudo aponta na mesma direção. Ainda não existe uma confirmação oficial, mas neste momento seria uma surpresa se não fosse mesmo o Adam.
No geral, estes capítulos conseguiram fazer exatamente aquilo que um bom romance deve fazer: deixar-nos completamente investidos nas personagens e fazer-nos rir às gargalhadas.
Por enquanto, percebemos perfeitamente porque é que A Hipótese do Amor é um dos romances mais recomendados dos últimos anos.
Quanto mais avançamos na história, mais difícil se torna pousar o livro. As personagens continuam a conquistar-nos capítulo após capítulo e estamos completamente investidos nesta relação que, sinceramente... já não parece ter nada de fake. 💙🧪

💭 Teoria atual: O Adam é definitivamente o rapaz da casa de banho 👀... e temos a sensação de que ambos já estão apaixonados, mesmo que ainda não o queiram admitir. Ainda que o Adam esteja apaixonado há mais tempo definitivamente 🤭.
