TV show review: Sterling Point

(English)

Hello everyone! 😊 How have you guys been? Already enjoying the autumn vibes we suppose... πŸ‚

Around here, we finally finished writing our review  on the show that dominated our last days of summer. We're talking, of course, about Sterling Point and, honestly, we weren’t expecting to enjoy it quite as much as we did!

There’s something about this series that immediately gave us those early-2000s teen-show vibes. The kind of shows we used to watch when we were younger and somehow always ended up getting completely invested in. And, while Sterling Point definitely has yet to prove itself as a new icon in pop culture in the long term, it has something that kept us wanting to watch the next episode and anxious for the next season.

The dialogue

One of the things that worked particularly well for us was the dialogue. The conversations between the teenagers felt surprisingly natural, and that made a huge difference for us! Every conversation felt incredibly realistic, you know? We later found out that the creators gave the actors some freedom to improvise based on their characters' backgrounds and stories, and honestly, we think it shows.

Sometimes you watch a show about teenagers and the dialogue sounds exactly like what a group of 40-year-olds thinks teenagers sound like... That wasn’t really the case here. The conversations felt much more spontaneous, messy and believable which made the characters feel more real.

The soundtrack and the atmosphere

Then, there’s the soundtrack. We loved it so freaking much! The music fits the atmosphere perfectly and gives it that fun, summery vibe that makes you want to spend the whole afternoon somewhere sunny watching episode after episode.

Speaking of summer… the setting is absolutely gorgeous. Everything about it feels bright, warm and effortlessly summery, making Sterling Point the perfect kind of series to watch when you’re craving sunshine and summer camp vibes.

The plot and the characters

Of course, as this is a teen drama, the teenagers we follow, make questionable decisions. A lot of them! πŸ˜‚ But honestly, they’re teenagers, so we’ll give them some credit.

What surprised us most, though, was how much our opinions of some of the characters changed throughout the series. At first, we really didn’t like Ramona, mostly because of how she treated Annie. But as we got to know her better, we found ourselves understanding her way of thinking much more and eventually even sympathising with her.

Oona also ended up being a character we really enjoyed. There’s something about her that made her particularly fun to watch. She is flawed in a way that is really relatable to watch.

And then there’s Annie. We initially thought we had a pretty good idea of what kind of character she was going to be. The typical sweet girl, the perfect protagonist. However, she ended up having more flaws than we expected and showing us a bit of her more irresponsible side. In a way, that made her more interesting even if we didn’t always agree with her choices and attitude.

One of the biggest surprises for us was actually Annie’s brother, Connor. He ended up being one of our favourite characters because he’s much more interesting and, honestly, much smarter and cunning, than people seem to give him credit for.

The adult storyline was another one of the strongest parts of the series for us. We liked that the story wasn’t only about teenage drama and that there was something bigger haunting the narrative. There’s a much bigger history underneath everything, and these kids are ultimately dealing with the consequences of choices their parents made a long time ago.

The entire cast deserves a lot of credit. The performances were pretty good, and the chemistry between the characters helped sell the story, especially when the dialogue was allowed to feel a little more spontaneous.

Overall, Sterling Point has a lot of potential. Is everything perfect? Definitely not. Some character choices left us questioning things, and there are moments where the story could have been handled differently.

But we had fun watching it, we got invested in the characters, loved the soundtrack and the setting, and, most importantly, we actually cared about finding out what would happen next.

So, for us, that makes it a 5/5 ⭐️.

We’re definitely curious to see where Sterling Point could go next.

(PortuguΓͺs)

A banda sonora e a atmosfera

Depois temos a banda sonora. GostΓ‘mos imenso!

A histΓ³ria e as personagens

A tΓpica rapariga querida, a protagonista perfeita.
