Reading Diary: Unexpected Favourites & All the Feelings

(English)

Hello everyone! πŸ€— Happy Monday! Hope the beginning of the week has been kind to you.

Today, since we are back from a resting weekend, we thought it would be fun to do another reading diary. We haven't done one in ages and it's officially time for a little reading update! We've been making our way through Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas and Beach Read by Emily Henry, and let's just say… we're having a wonderful time with both of them for very different reasons.

One is giving us fantasy, theories, and characters we're slowly learning to understand. The other is making us fall in love with its characters, their vulnerabilities, and the beauty of finding your way back to love. Here's where we're at!

πŸ”₯ Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

⚠️ Spoilers up to the chapter 24! ⚠️

This book keeps getting more interesting with every chapter. There are so many characters and storylines to follow, but a few have really stood out to us lately.

First of all, MANON! Honestly, she might be one of our favourite parts of this book so far. We knew she would probably choose the biggest, most intimidating wyvern available, but we were absolutely not expecting what happened with Titus and the little bait beast everyone had been mistreating. Watching the creature that had been treated as weak and disposable turn the whole situation around was such an unexpected moment. And Manon choosing Abraxos? We're so curious to see where their relationship goes from here!

Then there's Rowan. Oh, Rowan. We started this book with very little patience for his attitude, and honestly, we still have some reservations. But we're beginning to understand why so many readers find him interesting.

When he helped Aelin escape the skinwalkers, we were genuinely impressed. He could have left her behind, but he didn't, and that moment made us look at him a little differently. However, we haven't forgotten what he said to her earlier. Telling someone they're worthless and would have been better off dead is a pretty unforgivable thing to say, especially when you know so little about what they've been through.

We're slowly warming up to him, but we're not ready to hand him our hearts just yet!

We're also suspicious of Maeve. Something about her doesn't sit right with us, and we can't help wondering whether Rowan's loyalty to her will eventually be tested.

There´s something we've also been thinking about: the fandom's love for Rowan compared with the criticism Chaol often receives for the way he treats Aelin. We understand that these characters and their circumstances are different, but Rowan hasn't exactly been kind to Aelin either. We're interested to see how our opinions develop as we learn more about both of them.

Speaking of Chaol, his discovery about Aedion felt completely logical to us. Aedion hasn't exactly been subtle, and he and Aelin share that wonderful talent for pretending they don't care when, in reality, they care deeply. They're so alike in that regard! We were also happy to learn more about Aedion's commitment to the rebellion and his desire to help restore Terrasen.

Meanwhile, Dorian and Sorscha are giving us some much-needed sweetness. Their scenes are genuinely lovely, and we're enjoying seeing this softer side of Dorian. However, knowing what kind of relationship he has with his father, we can't help worrying that Sorscha might become a pawn in the king's plans. We really hope we're wrong. πŸ™πŸ»

Overall, Heir of Fire is becoming such an intriguing read. The different perspectives are adding depth to the story, and Manon, in particular, has us wanting to pick up the book again just to find out what happens next.

☀️ Beach Read by Emily Henry

⚠️ Spoilers up to the chapter 21! ⚠️

And then we have Beach Read, which is making us feel ALL the things.

We're around chapter 21, and we're completely invested. Emily Henry has this wonderful ability to make you fall in love with a story, not just because of the romance, but because of everything happening underneath it.

Compared with Poppy, January feels like a much calmer protagonist to us. She's bubbly and warm, but life has complicated things in ways that make it difficult for her to see the world as she once did. And we love how her experiences shape the way she approaches love, writing, and the people around her.

We're particularly enjoying her feelings on having a possible relationship with Gus. Their dynamic is so engaging, and we're loving the way their different personalities and perspectives come together. There's humour, vulnerability, and a lot of emotion beneath the surface, and we're completely here for it.

We're also beginning to understand some of the conversations surrounding the casting of the upcoming adaptation. Nothing against Patrick Schwarzenegger! We're sure he'll do a great job with the role, but we can't help imagining Dev Patel as Gus. We don't even have a particularly logical explanation for it; it's simply the face our brains have decided belongs to him!

Beyond the romance, what we're loving most is how this story explores the mistakes we make, the things that happen outside our control, and the challenge of moving forward when life doesn't turn out the way we imagined. Sometimes, we have to learn to live with things that weren't entirely our fault, find a way to heal, and allow ourselves to believe in love again.

It's emotional without losing its sense of fun, and its characters feel wonderfully vulnerable and human.

In very different ways, both books are reminding us why we love reading so much.

Heir of Fire has us theorising, questioning our first impressions, and getting attached to characters we didn't expect to care about this much. Beach Read has us laughing, falling in love, and thinking about the complicated ways people deal with life and heartbreak.

We're still early in both stories, and we can't wait to see where they take us next.

Have you read either of these books? We'd love to know what you thought, especially about Manon, Rowan, and the January & Gus dynamic!

Until next time, happy reading! πŸ€ŽπŸ“–

(PortuguΓͺs)

⚠️ Spoilers atΓ© ao capΓtulo 24! ⚠️

⚠️ Spoilers atΓ© ao capΓtulo 21! ⚠️

JΓ‘ leram algum destes livros?

AtΓ© Γ  prΓ³xima e boas leituras! πŸ€ŽπŸ“–
