Book Review: Vampire Academy ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5/6

Our latest read/reread was Vampire Academy 🧛🏻‍♀️🧛🏻‍♂️ by Richelle Mead. This is a spoiler free review so feel free to check it out 🤗.

The story starts by introducing us to our main character, Rose Hathaway, and her best friend Lissa Dragomir. Apparently normal teenage girls, Rose is a dhampir 💪🏽 and Lissa is a Moroi princess 👸🏻, a vampire who is mortal and can walk in the sunlight, while still feeding on humans. Being a dhampir, Rose is part human and part Moroi, meaning she is not sensitive to sunlight 🌞, while being stronger 💪🏽 and faster 🏃🏽‍♀️ than a human. She is Lissa 's guardian. Or at least she was supposed to be training to be so. Both girls were attending St. Vladimir’s academy, where Lissa is supposed to learn how to control one of the four elements, as any Moroi eventually does and Rose was being trained to protect a Moroi from the Strigoi, evil vampires who renounced the sun and magic by being turned or by taking a life while feeding.

Inside the walls of the academy, they might be safe from Strigoi, but other dangers are on the lookout to disturb their lives. They might have escaped from those walls two years ago, but are about to be thrown into that prison ⛓ once more.

Vampire Academy was released on 2007 and it is amazing how it managed to keep certain topics fresh and inserted into a fantasy world. We have two different experiences reading this book. I read it for the first time when I was 13 years old 👧🏻 and André read it at 21 🧑🏻.

And I feel like it was more impactful when I was a teenager. It’s still an awesome book of course 🤗👌🏻, but this was so much more impactful in my life when I was a teenager, because topics as self-harm, depression and sexuality were such taboos and this book really managed to get me to look at things and connect dots on our teenage years, that I would have never connected. André founded the book interesting too, althoutgh he thinks it was a bit complicated at the beggining to catch the story 😅. (The way the book begins can really let us a bit confused, but you'll eventually find your place... 😅🤭) He also thought that the book is more to a young adult audience, so maybe it was the reason I had liked it so much back then 🤭.

Well, we rate this book 4.5 stars, since it was so impactful for me while growing up and I still totally vibed to the story, even though I knew the ending already 🤭, and André is hoping for the sequel, therefore we may pick up the second one soon 🤗.

A nossa última leitura/releitura foi Academia de Vampiros 🧛🏻🧛🏻 da Richelle Mead. Esta é uma review sem spoilers, por isso, sintam-se à vontade para ler 🤗.

A história começa por apresentar a nossa personagem principal, Rose Hathaway, e a sua melhor amiga Lissa Dragomir. Ainda que aparentem ser raparigas adolescentes normais, Rose é uma dhampir 💪🏽 e Lissa é uma princesa Moroi 👸🏻, uma vampira que é mortal, pode andar ao sol e se alimenta de humanos. Sendo uma dhampir, a Rose é parte humana e parte Moroi, o que significa que não é afetada pela luz solar 🌞, sendo ao mesmo tempo mais forte 💪🏽 e mais rápida 🏃🏽 do que um humano. Ela é a guardiã de Lissa, ou pelo menos era suposto ela estar a treinar para o vir a ser. Ambas as raparigas frequentavam a Academia de S. Vladimir, onde a Lissa deveria aprender a controlar um dos quatro elementos, como qualquer Moroi eventualmente faz, e a Rose estava a ser treinada para proteger um Moroi dos Strigoi, vampiros que renunciaram ao sol e à magia ao serem transformados ou ao tirarem uma vida enquanto se alimentavam.

Dentro das paredes da academia, podem estar a salvo dos Strigoi, mas outros perigos estão a postos para perturbar as suas vidas. Podem ter escapado desses muros há dois anos, mas estão prestes a ser atiradas para aquela prisão ⛓ mais uma vez.

Academia de Vampiros foi lanchado em 2007 e é surpreendente como conseguiu manter certos tópicos frescos e inseridos num mundo de fantasia. Nós temos duas experiências diferentes na leitura deste livro. Eu li-o pela primeira vez quando tinha 13 anos 👧🏻 e o André leu-o com 21 🧑🏻. 

Pessoalmente, sinto que foi mais impactante quando eu era adolescente. Ainda é um livro fantástico, claro 🤗👌🏻, mas isto foi muito mais impactante na minha vida quando era adolescente, porque temas como auto mutilação, depressão e sexualidade eram tabus e este livro conseguiu realmente fazer-me olhar para as coisas e ligar pontos na nossa adolescência, que eu nunca teria ligado. O André também achou o livro interessante, ainda que tenha ficado com a opinião de que foi complicado "apanhar o fio à meada" 😅 no início. (A forma como começa pode mesmo deixar a pessoa um pouco confusa, mas acaba-se por ir percebendo... 😅🤭) Achou, também, que é um livro mais virado para um público jovem, daí que talvez eu tivesse gostado tanto 🤭.

Bem, classificamos este livro com 4.5 estrelas, uma vez que foi tão impactante para mim enquanto crescia e eu ainda vibro totalmente com a história, apesar de já saber o final 🤭 e o André também ter ficado "preso" à sua continuação, pelo que devemos de pegar no segundo livro muito em breve 🤗.
