Movie Review: The Hating Game ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

Hello again, guys! 🤗 

As promised and a little more late than what was expected 😅, we bring you a review for The Hating Game movie 🎬. Keep in mind we watched it right after we finished the book, so we ended up comparing a bit of both just like we did with Death on the Nile 😅🤷🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️. Be aware there are spoilers ahead!⛔

So as well as the book, the movie follows Lucy Hutton on her daily attempts to beat her coworker Joshua Templeman. The intro of the movies makes us aware of the merge between the two publishing companies and what exactly makes Lucy and Josh hate each other so much.

The movie is an entertaining rom-com 🥰, although it might be a bit less structured than it was in the book. There are some mistakes and switches that seem almost made by laziness such as the elevator scene🛗🤔. It might be a small detail, but the fact that Josh kissed Lucy in the book made it more impactful since he was doing it in an attempt to make her rethink about her date that night. He stopped the elevator and he kissed her 😘. In the movie, Josh stops the elevator and Lucy kisses him. Why?🙄 What is her motivation at that moment? She was so desperate to prove to Josh that she had a date that she even invited someone just to prove herself... Why kiss him and make him believe that she can in any way desire him, when they are still competing?! It kind of makes no sense! 😤

The movie managed to make these two fans happy 😊 by adding consistent and specific details, such as the scene where Lucy is sick 🤒. Besides some minor changes, we think they managed to capture small details such as the smurf collection (but please the smurf fanfiction... 🤣 was a bit of a stretch hahaha), the non-organized apartment, the "sleepyssaurus" T-shirt… We have to admit that was one of our favorite scenes 🤭.

The wedding scene was a bit more short than what we expected and the fact that Mindy was previously Josh’s girlfriend and was marrying his brother came out less impactful than what was expected. Also this was supposed to lead us to the scene that truly kind of annoyed us, Josh and Lucy’s first time. It was not in the right moment at all, which would have been so much more impactful and the way it was done was just… we hate saying it, but not like in the book!!! 😥 I mean they build up tension to that moment and are not remotely close to the story. It felt rushed and that was one of the things Josh told Lucy he wanted to avoid.

The ending was also sort of changed… What we expected to be the end was in fact extended in order to have more work tension between the two and to provide us, how shall we say it, a last minute conflict before the happy ever after 🥰.

The performances were pretty solid from most actors, but props to Lucy Hale for her wedding scene, because the speech killed us and made us laugh like crazy 😂😂😂.

All things considered, we give the movie a 4 stars rating. The differences from the book are some, but it’s overall an enjoyable and simple romantic comedy to watch. Would recomend! 🤗

Como prometido e um pouco mais tarde do que o esperado😅, trazemos-vos uma crítica do filme Odeio-te e Amo-te 🎬. Tenha em mente que o vimos logo após termos terminado o livro, pelo que acabámos por comparar um pouco de ambos, tal como fizemos com o Morte no Nilo 😅🤷🏻‍♀️💁🏻‍♀️. Estejam cientes de que há spoilers pela frente!⛔

Tal com no livro, o filme segue Lucy Hutton nas suas tentativas diárias de vencer o seu colega de trabalho, Joshua Templeman. A introdução do filme torna-nos conscientes da fusão entre as duas editoras e do que faz exatamente com que a Lucy e o Josh se odeiem tanto um ao outro.

O filme é um romance divertido 🥰, embora possa ser um pouco menos estruturado do que estava no livro. Há alguns erros e interrupções que parecem quase cometidos por preguiça, tais como a cena do elevador 🛗🤔. Pode ser um pequeno detalhe, mas o facto de o Joshua ter beijado a Lucy no livro tornou-o mais impactante, uma vez que ele estava a fazê-lo numa tentativa de a fazer repensar o seu encontro naquela noite. Basicamente: ele parou o elevador e beijou-a 😘. No filme, o Josh parou o elevador e a Lucy beija-o. Porquê?🙄 Qual é a motivação dela naquele momento? Ela estava tão desesperada para provar ao Josh que tinha um encontro que até convidou alguém só para provar que era desejável... Porquê beijá-lo e fazê-lo acreditar que ela pode de alguma forma desejá-lo quando eles ainda estão a competir?! Não faz qualquer sentido! 😤

O filme conseguiu fazer estes dois fãs felizes 😊 ao acrescentar detalhes consistentes e específicos, tais como a cena em que Lucy está doente 🤒. Além de algumas pequenas alterações, penso que conseguiram captar pequenos detalhes como a coleção de smurf (mas por favor a fanfic dos smurf... 🤣 foi um pouco demais hahaha), o apartamento não organizado, a T-shirt do "sleepyssaurus"... Temos de admitir que essa foi uma das nossas cenas preferidas 🤭.

A cena do casamento foi um pouco mais curta do que o que se esperava e o facto da Mindy ser anteriormente namorada de Josh e estar a casar com o seu irmão saiu menos impactante do que o esperado. Além disso deveria levar-nos à cena que realmente nos aborreceu, a primeira vez do Josh com a Lucy. Não foi de todo no momento certo, que teria sido muito mais impactante e a forma como foi feito foi apenas... detestamos dizê-lo, mas não como no livro!!! 😥 Quer dizer, eles acumulam tensão até esse momento e não estão remotamente próximos da história. Sentiu-se que foi apressado e isso foi uma das coisas que o Josh disse à Lucy que queria evitar.

O final também mudou... O que esperávamos que fosse o fim, foi de facto prolongado para termos mais tensão de trabalho entre os dois e para nos proporcionar, digamos assim, um conflito de última hora antes dos felizes para sempre 🥰.

As atuações foram bastante sólidas por parte da maioria dos atores, mas parabéns em especial para a Lucy Hale e para a sua cena no casamento, porque o discurso que ela deu matou-nos e fez-nos rir como loucos 😂😂😂.

Considerando tudo, damos ao filme uma classificação de 4 estrelas. As diferenças em relação ao livro são algumas, mas em geral é uma comédia romântica simples e agradável de se ver. Nós recomendaríamos! 🤗
